 ***Back to school breakfast***

Please bring your kids and join the PTA for a fun breakfast provided by chik-fil-a for the first 700 people. Breakfast will be available from 7:30 am to 8:00 am in the gymnasium on Thursday August 20^thThere will be a short PTA business meeting held at 8:00 to approve the budget and introduce the fundraiser to the D Track Parents.  You will also have the opportunity to meet our new live mascot! On any given day 51% of children go to school without breakfast…the PTA would like to encourage parents everywhere to take the time to give their kids a healthy start to the day!  We will be unable to allow children to attend this breakfast event without a parent, so please make the effort to be there! 

PTA Goals for 2009-10

• Double PTA membership (this would require over 600 PTA members)
• 40% male membership (this would require 240 members to be male)
• 100% faculty and staff membership (this has already been reached)
• Implement McGruff House (turn in your application to get a sign)
• Focus on Fitness (fun run, skate night, apply for healthy lifestyles)
• Spelling Bee (teachers have agreed to participate in the spelling bee)
• Recycling (box tops, soup labels, plastic bags, milk lids, recycling bins)
• Fieldtrips (increase the number of fieldtrips per grade level as desired)

NAME THE DOLPHIN!!!

We have a new addition to our Daybreak Team! We have a live Dolphin Mascot that needs a name!The students have been asked to draw a picture of the Dolphin and write down their idea for a name.  The deadline for Entries is August 31^st so that our Dolphin will have a name in time for the Fun Run!!!

Every Family will receive a packet this year containing 2 entry forms and Media Releases that can be copied for additional entries.  The PTA is so proud to offer such a wonderful program for developing and displaying talents.  One of last year’s National winners was from Bountiful, Utah.  Our children are full of ideas and talents just waiting to be released…let’s encourage and help them to recognize and realize their potential!

FUN RUN FUNDRAISER

It’s a Family Event You Won’t Want to Miss!

     We are so excited for our second annual FUN RUN FUNDRAISER!  It will be Thursday, September 3^rd @ 9:00 a.m.  With our Fun Run Fundraiser, we are able to keep 100% of the monies collected to use for the many wonderful programs at our school such as field trips, assemblies, Reflections, literacy programs, drug awareness and safety programs, book fairs, teacher appreciation, and more.   The Fun Run also encourages physical fitness, school spirit, school unity, and most of all FUN!

     Here’s how it works.  Each student will be given a yellow Pledge Packet and will have approximately 2 - 3 weeks to collect pledges from parents, grandparents, friends and neighbors.  Please collect the money at the time of the pledge.  This will be our only fundraiser this year, so we are hoping to raise pledges of $20,000—that is a goal of about $20 per student.  Pledge packets will be due on August 31^st (Tracks A, B and D) and August 13^th (Track C).  We will be having a giant drawing for great prizes such as ipods, sports equipment, bikes and more!  We also have great incentives for those working hard to raise money.

     This will be a great activity for you to mingle with friends, neighbors, students and teachers—we had such a great time last year.  Come show support for our wonderful children and teachers, for the exceptional programs available here at Daybreak Elementary and for our amazing school by participating in this year’s Fun Run Fundraiser!

     We are so excited to welcome students and teachers back to school!  This year the PTA welcomed families into the school on Wednesday July 22nd to tour the facility, see the location of their new classrooms, and figure out where their students would line up on the first day of school! This turned out to be such a fun event with a great turnout.  The PTA also had volunteer sign-up sheets available along with information on PTA programs such as Boxtops, Fun Run, T-shirts, and Membership.

     On the first day of school, it was evident that the tours and line-up signs were extremely helpful in decreasing the chaos of beginning a new school year!  We look forward to offering this program in the years to come!

     On Thursday July 23rd, the PTA Board welcomed the Teachers with a Barbacoa Luncheon.  We introduced the new State PTA theme: CELEBRATE CHILDREN! We introduced the new Board and talked about what we can do to be more effective with our programs.  We gave the teachers a handout regarding the National Spelling Bee and offered to pay for our school to register to be involved in spelling bees this year as well as provide awards for winners on a local level.  We displayed examples of our new School Spirit T-shirt which will be provided by Stain Imaging found at www.sgreenprinting.com who has developed a new innovative and eco-friendly form of printing T-shirts. We hope to have T-shirts available for sale during Back to School Conferences August 4th through August 6th.
